Finnish production carrier Nordic Regional Airlines (Norra) will continue to operate Widerøe flights in Norway until 29 October 2022. The extension agreement for the summer season corresponds in scope to the current agreement, under which Norra operates two ATR 72-500 aircraft from Bergen to five destinations: Kristiansand, Kristiansund, Molde, Stavanger, Ålesund. The flights will be operated by Norra’s Finnish staff.
“The Norwegian operations have been a successful business opening for us. It is great that the contract is once again being extended,” says Managing Director Janne Tarvainen of Norra.
With the extension agreement, Norway will continue to have 40 jobs in Norway. Those who work in Norway are on expatriate assignments mainly out of their own enthusiasm. The duration of the assignment always takes into account the employee’s own personal situation, and on this basis, the assignments have been a couple of weeks at the shortest and three months at the longest. Norra aims to offer as many people as possible the opportunity to go to Norway.
Aircraft operating in Norway are changed every month or so to allow for major maintenance and checks to be carried out in Helsinki. The agreement will have a significant economic impact on Norra and will help keep the company’s aircraft in the air and its employees on the job.
“Our business depends heavily on the needs of our customers Finnair and Widerøe. In the midst of the uncertainty brought about by the interest rate virus pandemic and the Russian invasion, this contract is of great value to us,” says Tarvainen.
Norra started operating Widerøe routes in September 2021. By the end of February 2022, Norra will have operated a total of 3 100 Widerøe flights in Norway. The contract has already been extended twice and the latest contract also includes options for the winter season 2022-2023.
